Letter Knowledge is knowing that the same letter can look different, that letters have names and are related to sounds. Choose books that emphasize the alphabet, books with shapes or books where you have to find simple objects.
What You Can Do To Reinforce This Skill
Sing the alphabet song with your children.
Talk about the shapes of letters. Look for things with similar shapes in the world around them.
Encourage kids to play with large plastic magnetic letters or letters made out of other materials.list item
Have writing materials available for kids such as chalk etc. so they can practice writing their letters.list item
Point out words and letters they see in their environment such as the EXIT sign or words on the T-shirt.
Ask the children to create letters with their fingers or bodies
Allow children to see and feel different shapes
