WPL Narrative Skills

Narrative skills is the ability to understand stories and the ability to tell stories or describe events. Choose books with repeated phrases, books that tell a cumulative tale or books with a sequence based in the natural world.

What You Can Do To Reinforce This Skill

Talk with the children about what they are doing. Ask them “What?” or other open-ended questions.

Be patient and allow children time to respond.

Tell Stories and draw pictures to go along with the book you tell.

Encourage pretend play

Let the children help you tell stories using the flannel board, puppets, creative dramatics or props.
