Overdrive and Adobe Digital Editions

Go to adobe siteUsers with Nook, Kobo, and Sony readers need to download Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) to their personal computer before Overdrive epub books can be tranferred to a reader.

Install

ADE can be downloaded from the Adobe site. Download and install ADE to the computer where the portable device will be plugged in. You will be asked to create an Adobe ID as part of the installation process. An Adobe ID is simply an email and password. **You must have an Adobe ID if you want to transfer books to a reader.** Create an Adobe ID here

Downloading

After installing ADE you are ready to download a book from the website. Two file types are available for downloading: Adobe ePub and Adobe PDF.

Downloading Adobe ePub books

The book will download from the website to the computer and automatically open ADE. ADE will ask you to authorize the computer using the Adobe ID previously created. Once this is done, the book will appear in the right panel of the ADE software.

Downloading Adobe PDF books

Free ebooksAdobe PDF books can be accessed by clicking on the image in the lower left sidebar that says 'Additional ebooks, Always available". These books do not count against your limit of four and have no return date. When you find an PDF title you would like to read, click the 'Download' button. You will be asked if you would like to 'Open' or 'Save' the file. Choose 'Save', and save the file to a place of your choosing. Then, open Adobe Digital Editions and find the word 'Library'. Click on the drop down arrow next to the word Library and select 'Add item to library'. Navigate to the folder when the item was saved and click 'Open'. The book will be imported into Adobe Digital Editions and ready for transfer to your device.

Transfer

Once the book is displayed in ADE, you will plug in the reader. You will need to click the Bookshelf icon in the upper left corner of the ADE window. Your reader will appear as the last link in the left ADE panel. One the reader appears, simply click and drag the book to the reader link.

Once transfer is complete, disconnect the reader from the computer and follow the device instructions for reading your book.
